Traditional Medicine & Acupuncture in Ho Chi Minh City, with doctors who speak English

Tam Duc is a small, doctor-led clinic of traditional medicine, open since 2016. You see one of our two doctors in person, in English, and the first consultation takes 30–45 minutes. We spend that time finding out why your body is behaving the way it is. Treatment comes after that.

Is this the right clinic for you?

Many of the people we see have already tried several treatments. The symptom keeps coming back because two or three causes are stacked on top of each other: poor sleep feeding into pain, low magnesium feeding into anxiety, a stressful year showing up in the menstrual cycle. We commonly see:

  • Fatigue that has lasted for months, often with low iron, magnesium or vitamin D
  • Stress, anxiety, poor sleep, headaches and dizziness
  • Neck, shoulder and back pain, disc problems and scoliosis
  • Irregular or painful periods, hormonal acne and PCOS
  • Trying to conceive, including alongside IVF
  • Pregnancy, recovery after birth and breastfeeding difficulties

Not for emergencies. We are an outpatient clinic that works by appointment from Tuesday to Saturday, and we do not provide emergency care. For chest pain, difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding or a sudden severe headache, call 115 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

Treatments

AcupunctureFine, sterile, single-use needles at acupuncture points and motor points to ease pain, relax tight muscles and help regulate the nervous and hormonal systems. The points are chosen from what your examination found, not from a standard recipe for your symptom. The doctor does the acupuncture personally. A session lasts 60–70 minutes. Most people feel a brief prick as the needle goes in, then a dull heaviness or warmth. If something feels wrong, tell us and we adjust straight away.
MoxibustionA lit stick of dried mugwort is held close to the skin to warm selected points. The doctor does it personally, watching how your body responds and adjusting during the session. A session lasts 20–30 minutes.
Herbal medicineA formula made up for you, according to your condition and constitution, and changed as you improve. Before prescribing, the doctor checks the medicines you already take and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. We can cook (decoct) the herbs for you, so you take home ready-to-drink pouches instead of preparing them in your kitchen.

Applied Kinesiology, in one minute

Dr. Dinh Ngoc Duc demonstrating an arm muscle test in Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a way of assessing how your body is functioning by testing the response of a muscle. The doctor tests a muscle, introduces one factor at a time and tests again. That factor might be a touch on a tense area, a nutrient held against the skin, a change of posture, or a stressful memory. The change in the muscle’s response shows which structural, nutritional or emotional factor is putting load on your body right now.

At Tam Duc we use it to:

  • Decide which of several problems to address first
  • Check which nutrients suit you, and at what dose, before you buy a cupboard full of supplements
  • Find the stress pattern behind pain, poor sleep or a cycle that has gone off track

AK is done by doctors trained in it, together with the usual examination and tests. It does not replace blood tests, imaging or a medical diagnosis, and it is not something to try on yourself at home.

Will I really be able to speak English with the doctor?

Yes. Both doctors consult in English. Before your visit, reception can message you in English on Zalo; phone calls are in Vietnamese.

Yes. Bring the list and the doctor will take it into account. We do not ask you to stop medicines prescribed by your other doctors. If herbs and a medicine should not be combined, we tell you and adjust the formula.
